How I see the East..

And this is how I see the East. I have seen its secret places and have looked into its very soul; but now I see it always from a small boat, a high outline of mountains, blue and afar in the morning; like faint mist at noon; a jagged wall of purple at sunset. I have the feel of the oar in my hand, the vision of the scorching blue sea in my eyes. And I see a bay, a wide bay, smooth as glass and polished like ice, shimmering in the dark.
A red light burns far off upon the gloom of the land, and the night is soft and warm. I drag at the oars with aching arms, and suddenly a puff of wind, a puff faint and tepid and laden with strange odours of blossoms, of aromatic wood, comes out of the still night- the first sight of the East on my face. That I can never forget. It was impalpable and enslaving, like a charm, like a whispering promise of mysterious delight.

Tiffanie and Me

Thursday, January 26, 2006

another piece dies.

Today we witness another strike to our Canadian heritage. The Hudson's Bay Company, the largest retail store in Canada, is, at the root, the reason why we as a nation exist. It was this company that founded our great country and explored its vast lands. Now it is no longer. It shall remain a name in textbooks to come but not for our children to see. It has been sold, like so many others before, to the U.S. and will likely be converted to countless Target stores. Although some would welcome more discount stores such as Target and Wal-mart, it is not without cost. Canadian heritage..sold to the highest bid...and no longer in the hands of Canadians. Though some would say "that it is the way things go," that is was "bound to happen", it does not curb the sharp pain of dissappiontment for the day that another piece of Canada died.

Holy Sonnet X

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so ;
For those, whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy picture[s] be,
Much pleasure, then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou'rt slave to Fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy, or charms can make us sleep as well,
And better than thy stroke ; why swell'st thou then ?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And Death shall be no more ; Death, thou shalt die

Friendliness.....

Friendliness, it seems to me, is an art; and not everyone who smiles and says, "Friend, friend," possesses it. It is an affair of the heart touched by imagination and founded on a sweet and ancient instinct quite unaccountable to reason or logic. "They are my friend. I like them," is adequate explanation of this inexplicable fact.

A warm friendship puts value and meaning into life. Until one knows an understanding friend, nothing they do is of the least consequence to them. What good in building if there is no eager foot to cross the threshold of our achievement? What pleasure can there be in creating beauty if there be no appreciative spirit to welcome it? What could fire us to further effort if there were no warming hearty cheers to stir the ashes of our spent dreams?

Behind each great achievement in this world there are usually two people, the worker and their friend. To the friend who listened and advised and encouraged, to them who poured out their own spirit that another's might flower in full glory, to the silent one in the background who put the breath of life in the other's creation-to them honour is due.

How shall the friendly being acquire a friend? Not by looking the field over with calculating eye and deciding. "Such a one would help me in my business." Friendship is unselfish to the power of selflessness; and that, you must know, becomes the most terrific power in this world. Power enough to move continents.

off off and away..

K, so I am not exactly superman...or any super hero. ( i definetly dont have the ripped abs and the body to appear in public wearing spandex) But it is becoming increasing evident to me that I am in great need of some sort of super power.
Once again.... school has started, sign langauge class has begun, job is on the way, Boys and Girls club has begun, homework is stacking up, artical has to be done for editor, art orders are in, and the Kwatlen after school program has started. So I need the capability to be in more than once place at a time. Especially now since there has been a development added to the mix. Yup that is right. I have gots me girl!!! Yes! that is right. I know there are plenty out there that thought that it would never happen and perhaps are thinking that this girl must be crazy...but she makes me smile....(to say the least)

so heres hoping for super powers, ripped abs, no spandex, and many moments with you T!
